
The Office of Sheriff is tasked with all three branches of criminal justice. These branches include law enforcement, courts, and corrections. Court services provides, among other duties, security for the courts as well as the courthouse. Court services also serves the majority of writs, warrants, precepts, and processes directed to the sheriff by the courts. Georgia law requires that the sheriff or his deputy attend all sessions of the superior court as well as probate court sessions when requested by the judge. Georgia Law also requires that the Sheriff implement comprehensive courthouse security. Georgia law places the public grounds and other county property in the keeping of the sheriff, making it his or her duty to preserve them from injury or waste and to prevent intrusions upon them.
